I recorded most of this album ten years ago as a birthday present for my father. For one reason and another I never for round to releasing it back then; but not I find that events in the world and in my life have turned my thoughts back to themes of Jewishness.

It all began when I suggested to my friend the composer Alexei Kurbatov that he should write his own version of the Kol Nidre for string quartet and sax for the festival we run together. At that moment I decided it was time to finish the record.

Tracks:

John Zorn

  1. Kol Nidre for string quartet

Ernest Bloch

  1. Abodah (God’s Worship)

Alexander Verprik
Suite for violin & piano, Op. 7

  1. I. Commoditto, Abbandono
  2. II. Barocco, al rigore di Tempo
  3. III. Capriccioso, ma placido

“…what really matters is his ability to work with each of the selections on the composer’s own terms. There is no questioning the technical skill he brings to each of the pieces he performs. More important, however, is his acute awareness of where the music actually resides beneath the surface level of all the marks on the score pages.”—Examiner.com
